How long should I spend on brushing my dogs hair?

I bought a new nifty tool that is supposed to remove the under coat. It works very well and has taken a lot of hair off of my dogs, but how much is too much? I just spent an hour on my largest dog and I haven't even done his legs yet.

Should I keep brushing til no more hair comes off on it (instead of on my furniture)? Or will it just keep eating at all of my dogs hair?

*This thing is a metal band with teeth on it*

Shedding blades are great. I use it once a week on my girl perhaps for half an hour total.

Just be careful around their "bony" parts and inner legs.

just brush once all over, when there's a lot of hair coming out, then, keep brushing til there isn't much in ur brush anymore, i mean, if you haven't brushed your dog in say, 6 months, then, yes, a lot will come out, especially if ur dog has a lot of furr, but don't spend like two plus hours brushing ur dog, they can lose their hair (more than what ur willing to get out), it can dry their skin and irritate it and, yeah. just brush all over once, and then a week later, do it again, and eventually ur dog won't have any loose hair, and nearly not as much as what is/was on ur sofa.

It depends on the dog. If it doesn't shed a lot then you should brush to much. However if it is a shedding dog then you could be brushing forever because they have a lot of loose and dead fur. I brush until you can run your fingers through once without getting a bunch of fur flying off. Also if you were removing any hair that wasn't loose yet your dog would probably tell you.

I would give your dog some breaks.....do a little at a time each day. You want to get all that hair out...but working on him for so long may be hard on him

If you're usung a "Furminator" just brush briefly ----5-10 minutes---daily. Over time less hair will come off but keep in mind that this is the time of year their summer coat is shedding %26amp; the winter coat is coming in. They need that protection in the colder weather.

I guess 2-5 mins/day, maybe more.

as a groomer i have seen a lot of different shedding tool. while there is nothing that works miracles, i use a furminator with best shot shampoo. one downside is the furminator if you use it is one spot too much you will start to brush the dog bald. every few days brush the dog out, and every week give the dog a bath and i would reccomend to get a kong zoom groom it make a load of differnce to get some of the loose fur out.
